The One Thing that Determines Quality of Life

February 26, 2015 By Aaron 10 Comments

Your quality of life is ultimately determined by the standards you set for yourself.

Do you pat yourself on the back for jogging once a week? Or do you hit the gym with intensity for an hour every other day, no questions asked? Maybe you have even higher standards and you lift five or six times a week.

What is your “default time waster”? Is it watching TV? Or jerking off? Or is it reading a book, preparing your meals or green juice, or keeping a journal?

Do you “reward” yourself with desert after dinner? Is it your default standard to eat sugar every night? Or do you never eat desert – it’s not even an option.

Is waking up early a big deal for you? Or is it as natural as brushing your teeth?

Do you always take the easy path in life? Is the path of least resistance your default standard? Or do you do what you know is right, even when it’s hard?

What are your thought patterns like? What kind of standards do you set for the thoughts in your own head? Are your thoughts hurting you or helping you reach your goals?

What do you think constitutes “hard work”? Three hours of checking Facebook and taking breaks? Or five hours straight uninterrupted? Or more?

What is your standard for pushing yourself? How far do you think you can go? Are your beliefs about yourself set to a high standard? Are you willing to test your own limits?

Standards are adaptable, but more importantly you will adapt to your standards. Things that used to be hard won’t be hard anymore.

That’s why you, me, and everyone else can keep improving until the day we die. It’s also why you can do anything you want in the world if you set high enough standards.

Forget about what everyone else is doing and set your own standards.

I wish you the best of luck.

Has changing your standards changed your life? I know it has for me. What about you? What changed? Let us know in the comments below.
